“Pepe” Mujica fue distinguido con el Doctor Honoris Causa de la UNQ
El lunes 10 de abril de 2023 José “Pepe” Alberto Mujica Cordano, ex presidente de la República Oriental del Uruguay, fue distinguido con el título de Doctor Honoris Causa de la Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (UNQ).
El evento se realizó en el Aula Magna y contó con la presencia de Alfredo Alfonso, rector de la Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (UNQ); María Alejandra Zinni, vicerrectora de la UNQ; José “Pepe” Mujica, ex presidente de la República Oriental del Uruguay; Lucía Topolansky Saavedra, ex vicepresidenta y ex senadora de la República Oriental de Uruguay y compañera de vida de Pepe; Carlos Custer, ex embajador en el Vaticano; Mario Caputo, del Colegio de Magistrados de Quilmes; el ex ministro de Educación de Uruguay, Ricardo Ehrlich; Fernando Sosa, Secretario de programas y proyectos de la Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo (AUGM) y Mayra Mendoza, intendenta del Municipio de Quilmes.
También estuvieron presentes los ex rectores de la UNQ, Mario Lozano y Daniel Gómez; y el rector de la Universidad Nacional de Avellaneda, Jorge Calzoni; autoridades provinciales y municipales, directores de las unidades académicas y otras autoridades universitarias, docentes, alumnos, personal no docente y miembros de la comunidad universitaria.
Una vez iniciada la ceremonia, el rector de la UNQ señaló: “Para nuestra universidad creada hace 33 años en el conurbano sur, que transita sus días confiando en sus docentes, investigadoras e investigadores, trabajadoras y trabajadores de las distintas áreas, graduados y graduadas, y estudiantes que se esfuerzan para trabajar y estudiar, poder aprender de referentes como Mujica nos ayudan a fortalecernos y a transformar la materia prima del conocimiento, en nuevas ideas, logros, creaciones y certezas. Como comunidad estamos agradecidos y orgullosos de que haya aceptado esta distinción, porque luego de su experiencia más traumática no se aferró a rencores, sino que luchó por la unidad del campo popular en su país, en un sentido inclusivo y amplio, con capacidad de escucha, humanismo y con confianza en la capacidad de los jóvenes”.
Posteriormente, el Rector le entregó a José “Pepe” Mujica el título de Doctor Honoris Causa. En su discurso, que durante más de 35 minutos enfatizó sobre humildad, respeto, esperanza y austeridad, el ex presidente de Uruguay manifestó: ” Tengo que agradecerle a este equipo de profesores. Yo no soy universitario, soy un paisano con lecturas. Pertenezco a una generación que pensaba que con algunos cambios íbamos a tener un , que podíamos cambiar el mundo. Teníamos fe y comprometimos nuestra juventud, nuestro trabajo y nuestra seguridad, nos jugamos el todo por el todo. No éramos mejores ni peores. Fue muy singular el tiempo que nos tocó vivir”.
Luego enfatizó a las y los jóvenes que debemos agradecer a la vida tener una pasión y una causa para vivir: “si la tenés, jugate por ella, comprometé tu vida. Te vas a equivocar, pero descubrirás un tesoro dentro de ti mismo. La vida es hermosa porque es la aventura, pero como es algo cotidiano no le damos valor y no nos hacemos la pregunta de si la vida tiene un sentido y si debemos vivir detrás de un sueño o si debemos vegetar, dejando que el mercado la maneje. La disyuntiva de las almas jóvenes es elegir o no un rumbo. Y esa es una decisión”.
Para finalizar, agradeció al pueblo argentino y recomendó: “somos pueblos más que hermanos. Somos de la misma placenta. He visto muchas veces en los últimos 50 años a la Argentina caer y siempre levantarse. Pueden y deben levantarse. Necesitamos una Argentina que se haga cargo de todo”.
Durante el acto, Mujica también recibió un presente de parte de la intendenta de Quilmes.
Sobre José “Pepe” Alberto Mujica Cordano
José “Pepe” Mujica nació en Montevideo el 20 de mayo de 1935 y comenzó desde temprana edad una profusa actividad en el campo de lo político, caracterizada por su claridad ideológica y transparencia moral orientada por alcanzar el bienestar social, afectivo y económico del pueblo uruguayo y latinoamericano.
El 8 de marzo de 1985 con la finalización de la dictadura cívico militar uruguaya (1973-1985) y luego de permanecer 13 años en cárcel, retomó su actividad política pública y fundó junto a otros/as compañeros/as el Movimiento de Participación Popular (MPP), espacio político con el que integraría el Frente Amplio.
En el desarrollo de su militancia política post dictatorial cobró progresivamente notoriedad social a partir de la cual asumió diferentes posiciones de representación de su pueblo, tanto legislativas (diputado en 1994 y senador en 1999) como ejecutivas (ministro de ganadería, pesca y agricultura en 2005).
En 2009 resultó electo presidente de la República Oriental del Uruguay con el 47,96% de los votos en primera vuelta y el 52,39% en la segunda. Durante el desarrollo de su gobierno se obtuvieron logros en materia económica, de derechos humanos, educativos y civiles entre los que destacan: la disminución en un 12% de la pobreza; se alcanzaron los niveles más bajos de desigualdad del país por medio de aumentos del salario mínimo, la ampliación de la cobertura jubilatoria y el reforzamiento de las asignaciones familiares, pensiones, entre otros; la creación de la Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay (UTEC), democratizando el acceso a poblaciones que no viven en Montevideo; la sanción de la Ley N°18.987 de interrupción voluntaria del embarazo como reconocimiento al derecho de las mujeres sobre el propio cuerpo y como política de Estado en materia de salud; la promulgación de la Ley N° 19.075 de matrimonio igualitario que posibilitó la unión civil en matrimonio sin importar sexo, orientación sexual o identidad de género; el descenso del desempleo que había comenzado con el primer gobierno del Frente Amplio, alcanzando su mínimo histórico en 5,6%.
“Pepe” Mujica ha sido distinguido con otros títulos de Doctor Honoris Causa por parte de Universidades extranjeras y locales como la Universidad Nacional de Lanús (2011), la Universidad Nacional de La Plata (2012), la Universidad Nacional de Rosario (2016) y la Universidad Nacional de Villa María (2020).
A su vez, en reiteradas ocasiones fue condecorado con las máximas distinciones honoríficas de distintos pueblos de la región; Orden Nacional al Mérito «Mariscal Francisco Solano López» (Paraguay, 2010); Orden El Sol del Perú (Perú, 2011); Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca (México, 2014); Orden Nacional del Gran Collar de Ecuador (Ecuador, 2014).
En 2021 recibió, por intermedio del presidente de la República Argentina, la Orden del Libertador General San Martín en grado de Collar, máxima distinción que otorga el Estado argentino a quienes por sus acciones merezcan la gratitud de la Nación

Today, I went to the beach with my kids.
